"This past summer President Barack Obama invested in the future of African leadership through the Mandela Fellows and hosted the first ever US-Africa Leaders summit in Washington, D.C. Although the summit was open, many people were excluded by virtue of socio-economic factors that hindered their participation. In view of the fact that China is dominating investment in Africa with limited American, especially African-American involvement, there is a need for the wider community as well as predominantly Black institutions, PBI, like Chicago State, to get in on these discussions. Additionally, the tremendous response from Africa and the Diaspora community working together at the summit stirred up hunger for more mutually beneficial global connections. This momentum must be cultivated and maintained as a catalyst for improved dialogue between the US and Africa, in order to stimulate trade and exchange of ideas which will lead us to more sustainable development for all parties.

Thus, the 'Global Africa Partnership Forum,'  with the theme, 'Building Global Partnership for African Leadership and Sustainable Development' is a continuation of these discussions to enhance capacity-building for US-Africa partnership. It seeks to connect the dots, to address pertinent issues of how to leverage international resources for leadership and development in Africa. The Forum will engage university's internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to faculty, students, entrepreneurs, corporations, faith-based and community organizations, policymakers, researchers, public intellectuals and the general citizenry in a dynamic discussion and debate about the broad issues surrounding the role university-community partnerships and the wider African Diaspora can play in building strong leadership and sustainable development for Africa.

The forum will go beyond talk to actually match resources to identified needs, as well as expose African resources to potential foreign investors. There is the opportunity for potential investors to meet on a one-on-one with country representatives. Additionally, a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Global Institute, including the Africa Center and the new Microfinance Center was held. For more information about the institute, please visit: www.csu.edu/internationalstudiesglobalinstitute."
