Avocado Edamame Wrap Vegan Recipe
Avocado Edamame Wrap Vegan Recipe

My favorite section was the Alternative Bitestyle featuring Healthier KIDSFare.
I loved this recipe for Avocado Edamame Vegan Wrap.

All the Gluten-Free samples were delicious. I was unable to discern by flavor, gluten-free products from non gluten-free products. I was not expecting the gluten-free samples to have any flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by what I experienced in terms of taste.

I think that restaurants offering gluten-free products to their gluten allergy customers will continue to grow. One Chicago restaurant, Home Run Inn Pizza offers Gluten-Free Pizza Crust. However, Chicago Home Run Inn has a disclaimer that their kitchen facility is not a Gluten-Free Kitchen. In order for a restaurant to offer completely gluten-free meals it must have a separate kitchen where gluten free products are prepared for customers. Essentially restaurants would be required to have two separate kitchen or not serve any gluten food at all in order to be certified gluten-free.  It is interesting to note that Chicago Home Run Inn Pizza is attempting to appeal to the children and adults with gluten allergies.

Pritikin Science vs Herbalife Hype

Weight Loss Programs: Science VS. Hype
Weight Loss Programs: Science VS. Hype

Warning signs a program is more hype than science:

Diet excludes food groups

Focuses on a single food, supplement or potion

Promises super quick weightloss

Proof is based solely on testimonials no research provided

Sounds too good to be true

How to spot a scam weightloss program:

Overly-promotional

Unusually affordable

Requires purchase of proprietary products

Relies on "before" and "after" pictures

My Herbalife "Before" Photo
My Herbalife "Before" Photo

My Herbalife "After" Photo

Years ago I signed up for Herbalife distributorship twice to the tune of $5,000 each time. So I spent a total investment on shakes and pills to lose weight. Drink two shakes a day and eat one healthy meal a day plus supplements. I did this until my body rejected the shake and the pills. My body wanted food. This Herbalife Hype is not sustainable for my body.

I probably could have taken my $10,000 went to Pritikin's All-Inclusive Health Resort Program for 2 weeks for the cost of about $9,300.00 single occupancy for the Spring Program.

The All-Inclusive Pritikin Program includes

  • Hotel Accommodations
  • Comprehensive Medical Health Evaluation and Fitness Assessment/Monitoring by our board-certified physicians
  • Five Nutritious, Gourmet Meals and Snacks Daily
  • Customized Fitness Classes led by university-degreed exercise physiologists
  • Education Classes taught by internationally renowned physicians, nutritionists, and psychologists
  • Healthy Cooking Classes led by Pritikin’s award-winning chefs
  • Use of all Resort facilities

Two factors set Pritikin apart from other health resorts:

  1. Its scientifically documented results, published in more than 100 studies in top medical journals like the New England Journal of Medicine; and
  2. Its education program, which teaches people how to sustain these results when they return home

I am a foodie who loves to take photos of food wherever I am dining or around food. I saw myself in this funny video Hungry (Happy Parody) by Taylor Moore.

As you can see by my video I love chocolate desserts.

This is a sample recipe that one might learn to prepare at a Pritikin Cooking Class.

  • Mustard Coated Salmon
  • So simple but so gourmet! A weeknight dish that makes you feel it's the weekend! Serve with a quick-and-easy whole grain like quinao or couscous, or a microwaved baked potato, plus a nice big green salad.

  • 2 tablespoons mustard stone-ground, no-salt-added
  • tablespoon mustard Dijon, no-salt-added
  • 1 teaspoon garlic finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon shallots or onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons wine white
  • 1 pound salmon preferably wild, and divided into 4 servings
  • 2 tablespoons dill fresh, chopped
Servings:  servings

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine mustards, garlic, shallots, and wine.
  2. Evenly coat one side of salmon fillets with half of mustard mixture. In a large medium-hot nonstick skillet, cook salmon mustard side up for 7 minutes.
  3. Flip salmon; spread the reserved mixture on top, and cover, cooking over medium heat until done to your liking.
  4. Sprinkle with fresh dill and serve.
According to the infographic Pritikin Weightloss Program is much more effective than the Herbalife program that I spent $10,000 on to lose weight.

Norman Bolden
Debonair Norman Bolden

Norman Bolden had a dream to create an upscale restaurant on the Southside of Chicago where people could come to dine on a gourmet meal, enjoy live jazz music, and network with others. He dream has become a reality and the community is embracing it. Norman Bolden is a former radio media sales executive and currently an entrepreneur of two establishments: Norman's Bistro and Room 43.

Normans Bistro and Room 43 have revived the spirit of the Bronzeville social and nightlife. During the 1920's to the 1950's Bronzeville was the center of Chicago's African American social life with its theaters, jazz clubs, blues clubs, restaurants, and social halls. Norman had a dream for more than 20 years of bringing this Bronzeville spirit back to the Chicago Southside. He has definitely succeeded because Normans Bistro and Room 43 are the epicenter of the African American social scene with politicians, entertainers, musicians, social elite, locals of the  Hyde Park and Kenwood Community.

Norman's Bistro creatively engages the community with special events such as the Kentucky Derby Day Brunch which is a fun dining party experience filled with gaiety. The normal attire for Normans Bistro is casual, but the Kentucky Derby Day Brunch motivated everyone to dress to the nines with the Kentucky Derby fashions including Derby hats, seersucker suits, pink shirts and ties.

Normans Bistro is located at 1001 East 43rd Street in Chicago, IL. It is the Oakwood and Kenwood Community near Muddy Waters Home in Oakwood and President Obama's House in Hyde Park. The residents of the community are African American, White and Latinos. This is a safe community on the Chicago Southside.

People seem to believe from the media reports that the Chicago Southside is completely African American and unsafe. This simply is not the case. There are neighborhoods that are safe on the Chicago Southside.

Norman Bolden has helped spurred the turnaround of this community and has diligently pursued this change for more than twenty years. We thank you Norman Bolden for creating Norman's Bistro and Room 43 to bring back the tradition of  fine dining and live music to the Chicago Southside.

Pritikin Chef Challenge to Pritikinize Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Recipe

Do you want to know a secret about me? Well here goes! I am addicted to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. We go to Sam's Club and buy Reese's Big Cup in bulk and we never ever run out of them. Our love of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups comes from the peanut butter balls that my grandmother would make for
our family snacks. OMG! Those peanut butter were so addictive that they lead to our Reese's Big Cup
Peanut Butter Lovers Cup Addiction. This past winter was the worse in Chicago's history which held
me captive in the house over indulging on Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. This is the cause for my sugar
roll around my waist plus the extra pounds that I have gained. I don't want to give up Chocolate and
Peanut Butter for life. I would for a Pritikin's Chef to "Pritikinize" this Homemade Reese's Peanut
Butter Cup Recipe. This Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Recipe is from the Food Network website.

Reese's Big Cups King Size
Reese's Big Cups King Size

Ingredients

1 cup peanut butter

1/4 salt

1/2 cup of powdered sugar

1 (12 - ounce package) Hershey's milk chocolate chips

Directions:

In a small bowl mix peanut butter, salt and powered sugar until firm. Slowly melt the chocolate chips in
a double boiler, over hot, not boiling water. You may also melt them in a microwave oven set on high
for 2 minutes, stirring halfway through the heating time. Grease the muffin tin cups and spoon until
some chocolate into each cup filling halfway. With a spoon, draw the chocolate up the edges of each
cup until all sides are coated. Cool in a refrigerator until firm. Spread some of the peanut butter onto the
chocolate in each cup, leaving room for the final chocolate layer. Cool the cups again to firm up the
peanut butter. Pour some chocolate onto of each candy and spread it to the edges. Let it sit at room
temperature, or covered in the refrigerator. Turn out of the pan when firm.

I am entering the blogger contest to win a trip to the Prikitin Longevity Center and Spa to celebrate
Pritikin's 35th Anniversary. The Prikitin Longevity Center and Spa is located in Miami, Florida on a
650 acre tropical paradise resort which boasts a full service spa and a championship golf course. I had
the pleasure of visiting the resort during my daughter's wedding. I would revel in the opportunity to
participate in a weekend of interactive cooking and nutrition courses and attend personalized fun
fitness classes to start me on my wellness journey back to a healthy lifestyle and weightloss.
Pritikin Longevity Center and Spa have help over 100,000 guests during the past 35 years to prevent

As a flight attendant for a regional carrier, I dine out often while flying around in North American
during four day trips. Many times I eat unhealthy meals, so I would really benefit from the  Pritikin's
classes on Dining Out, Label Reading and Calorie Density plus activities such as  cooking school,
yoga, Zumba and Tai Chi. I have a dancer's body and love Zumba. Yoga and Tai Chi are two exercise
that I would love to learn to incorporate into my lifestyle. All classes are taught by Pritikin's Faculty
who are leaders in their fields of medicine, nutrition, psychology and exercise. Pritikin's outings to
supermarkets and restaurants teach Pritikin's guests how to live the Pritikin's lifestyle in the real world.
